 Welcome to Hinds County MS Study Location


Welcome to the Hinds County MS Study location page. Located in west central Mississippi, Hinds County has a total area of 877 square miles — 869 square miles of land and 8 square miles of water. It is the home to Jackson, the state capital, and several other towns and cities which include: Clinton, Raymond, Bolton, Edwards, Learned, Terry, Utica, and Byram. There are nine major highways located in Hinds County, two of which are major interstates. One major interstate, I-55 crosses the state and Hinds County north to south. The second major interstate, I-20, crosses the state and Hinds County east to west.

Map of Mississippi showing Hinds CountyHinds County boasts seven hospitals including: Baptist Health Systems, Central Mississippi Medical Center, G.V. Montgomery VA Medical Center, St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital, River Oaks Health System, Woman’s Hospital at River Oaks, and the UMMC. There are many health clinics located throughout the county.

The UMMC Study Center includes many researchers on the UMMC campus, as well as collaborators from the Mississippi Department of Health and Blair E. Batson Hospital. Together, the research team will carry out the Study activities for the Hinds County MS Study location.
