San Diego County Vanguard Location Community Supporters

En Español

Community partnership and support is vital to the success of the National Children’s Study. Partnerships ensure that the Study is responsive to the needs and concerns of local residents. The San Diego County Vanguard location has and is continuing to gather support from many community organizations, including area hospitals and medical centers, government officials, numerous health and social service providers, as well as businesses around the community.

At the San Diego County Vanguard location, we are committed to partnering with members of the community in order to better understand and relate to the families whom we will invite to participate in this landmark study. To that end, we have formed Neighborhood Advisory Committees (NACs) in each of the fourteen neighborhoods from which we will recruit participants. Members of these groups may include (but will not be limited to) school-based administrators, faith-based organizations, local business people, social service providers, law enforcement, parents, and others interested in promoting the health and welfare of San Diego’s children. The NACs provide the neighborhood-level insight that is essential to the success of the National Children’s Study in each individual area. They help us brainstorm the best ways to reach out to potential participants to introduce them to the Study, as well as offer a forum for area residents to provide the local Study investigators with feedback. Our NACs meet about once a month. If you are interested in finding out if there is a National Children’s Study NAC in your neighborhood, please contact Diana Simmes at 858-822-3785 or by e-mail at dsimmes@projects.sdsu.edu or Everardo Aguilar at 858-822-5409 or by e-mail at efaguilar@ucsd.edu for more information.
