Welcome to the Montgomery County Vanguard Center

Welcome to the National Children’s Study in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Montgomery County, a suburb of Philadelphia, was selected as one of the first locations across the country to be part of the National Children’s Study (Vanguard Center). As a Vanguard Center, people living in Montgomery County will be some of the first in the nation to contribute to this landmark Study, focused on the health and well-being of the nation’s children.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) leads the implementation of the Study in Montgomery County. With enthusiastic support from state congressional leaders, community leaders, and the Montgomery County Health Department, the National Children’s Study was launched in Montgomery County on April 22, 2009. Through October 2011, the researchers at CHOP are pleased and excited to announce that over 280 Montgomery County families have agreed to participate in the National Children’s Study and more than 150 babies have been born in 19 area hospitals and birth centers.
