Input and guidance from the local community are important to the success of the National Children’s Study. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Study Center formed a Community Advisory Board (CAB) as a vehicle to facilitate community engagement. The role of the board is to assist with community education and outreach; provide advice on how best to successfully engage local participants; and to share community perspectives to ensure that the Study is conducted in a manner consistent with community norms and values. Members represent diverse sectors of the community including health care, education, churches, businesses, local government, and service organizations.

The first CAB meeting was held in April 2010. Board members offered suggestions for raising awareness about the importance Study and its potential for impacting the health of future generations.
