 Welcome to the Cumberland County Vanguard Location


Located in southern Maine, Cumberland County has a population of about 275,000 residents. It includes the Greater Portland metropolitan area, rural towns, and island communities. There is a growing immigrant and refugee community with more than 50 languages and dialects spoken in the county. These distinct and varied communities of Cumberland County, Maine add to the robust nature of the National Children’s Study. 

The Maine Study Center will recruit more than 1,000 children from Cumberland County and their families to participate in this important Study of health, growth, and development.

Timeline

September 2008: Maine Medical Center awarded contract for the National Children’s Study center in Cumberland County, Maine.

Spring 2010: Maine Study Center selected to participate in vanguard study.

November 2010: Recruitment begins!
