The Alleghenies Consortium Study Center is comprised of a team of researchers from the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, West Virginia University, Penn State University and the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago. In addition, the Alleghenies Consortium is partnering with local hospital systems, like Excela Health in Westmoreland County.
Dr. Jane Cauley, Principal Investigator
The Alleghenies Consortium is being led by Dr. Jane Cauley, Principal Investigator. Dr. Cauley directs a team of researchers from both the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University, and is also a member of the Executive Steering Committee for the National Children’s Study.
Dr. Cauley is a Professor of Epidemiology at the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh native, she attended college in Boston, MA, and completed her doctoral degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Cauley is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in osteoporosis (bone thinning) and has lectured and presented at many professional and community-based events. In addition to her research, Dr. Cauley teaches at the University of Pittsburgh. She has mentored a number of doctoral students and young faculty during tenure at the University.
