Welcome to the Arkansas Study Center

Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) is proud to be a contributing Study center to the National Children’s Study. ACHRI’s mission is to improve children’s health, development and well-being through high-quality research, which aligns directly with the purpose and mission of the National Children’s Study: To improve the health and well-being of children and contribute to understanding the role various factors have on health and disease.

  • There are 105 Study locations in 43 states throughout the country.
  • Benton County is the only location in Arkansas selected to participate.
  • More than 100,000 children will be followed from before birth through age 21.
  • The Study will examine how genetics and the environment interact to affect health and well-being.
  • Findings from the Study will be made available as the research progresses, making potential benefits known to the public as early as possible.
  • The goal of the Study is to help determine root causes of children’s health problems; identify new treatments and interventions for people affected by illness and disease; and develop evidence-based prevention strategies, health and safety guidelines, and future research.

The Benton County Study location has partnered with numerous physicians, clinics and hospitals throughout Northwest Arkansas to recruit more than 1,000 women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. While not every woman will be eligible to participate in the study, everyone in Northwest Arkansas who believes in making a healthier future for children for generations to come will have the opportunity to show support and make a contribution in some way to the National Children’s Study.
